How to make Valentine’s healthy this year

Healthy Valentines

We all know the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, but why should this stop when it comes to Valentine's Day? Too many of us do our best from the New Year, only to have it ruined come February 14th. Fear not, there are some great ways to say 'I love you' without piling on the pounds from endless chocolate and champagne.

Spa Vouchers

An afternoon at the spa is a great way to unwind, cleanse your body and relax your mind, and is a great healthy gift for that special someone. Spa treatments vary from those that pamper and indulge – such as massage, manicures, or pedicures, through to more holistic treatments – such as exfoliation, body cleansing and detoxing.

Cook Dinner

Cook a wholesome dinner for your partner to show how much you love them. Prepare a meal with your favourite healthy ingredients, ask your partner to dress up, and serve. Much better than a meal for two at the local Indian restaurant.

Fruit Basket

Instead of the traditional chocolate and champagne hamper, why not send a fruit basket? There’s so much choice out there that you can easily choose a basket that your partner will enjoy. Make your basket up of conventional fruit, citrus fruits, luxury fruits, and more. And why not add a small teddy for that Valentine’s touch.

Skin Care Set

Although we must look after our insides, let’s not forget our outsides. Skin is the body’s largest organ, so take care of it well. Skin care sets come in many many different ranges, choose carefully and pay attention to your partner’s skin type. Pick an organic skincare range for that extra healthy gift.

Fruit Chocolate Selection

A bit of both here – a fruit chocolate selection can be surprisingly healthy but deliciously yummy! Choose fruit covered in dark chocolate as this is rich in flavonoids which have been said to have health benefits.

Donation to the British Heart Foundation

Make a donation to the British Heart Foundation in your partner’s name for a truly special gift. Alternatively, head to their website and buy a gift from their online shop – what better way to give something you love to the person you love, whilst donating to a good cause.

Exercise bike

Many people want some form of gym exercise machine to have in the home, but unfortunately they can often be expensive. Show your loved one you care this year by splashing out on a gift they can benefit from year after year.

Romantic Walk for Two

Simple as it is, this is one of life’s truly romantic dates. You, your partner, some good comfortable shoes, and the great outdoors. Spend quality time with each other, talking and getting to know each other a little better. Wood or forest lands score highly on the romantic stakes, as does the beach and open-air fields. If however all you can find is roads and traffic, then walk with a pleasant destination in mind –such as a kids play park, or a local restaurant.

Red Wine

Not one to rely on as studies seem to be contradictory, but red wine has been said to have health benefits (only in moderation mind). So we’ll leave you to decide the truths behind this one…

Gym Kit

Both men and women often report feeling uncomfortable at the gym because of a lack of ‘trendy’ things to wear. Give your partner a reason to get down to the local health centre with a new set of trainers, some stylish tracksuit bottoms, or a cool new water bottle.
