Wine and Dine Indoors

Our guide to planning the perfect night in.
If you don’t fancy taking your date to a restaurant why not wine and dine them in the comfort of your own home? With no one around to disturb you, you will have more of a chance to light a spark with your date and find a real connection. Also, a romantic night in creates more of a relaxed setting and you will feel a lot more comfortable than if you were surrounded by other ‘loved up’ couples, which can be very intimidating.
So how can you ensure that your romantic night in goes smoothly? Read our guide to planning the perfect night in.
1. Clean the House
You’re date isn’t going to be impressed if your house is in disarray. A few days before the big night in, get out the hoover, feather duster and Dettox spray and give your place a good spruce up. Whilst you’re at it crack out the Febreze to cover up any dodgy odours. As they say, a clean house is a happy house!
2. Flowers
Feng Shui is an ancient Oriental method of divining good and bad forces, and according to the Flowers & Plants Association living flowers and plants play a big part in harnessing or altering this beneficial energy, or chi. They recommend a white vase with red or pink fresh flowers on the bedside table to bring romance into your life. Red tulips are believed to be especially good for encouraging romance. Fresh flowers bring luck and fortune in your home so make sure you place them in your living room before your date. Avoid buying artificial or dried flowers, because in Feng Shui these symbolise decay, lifelessness and misfortune and you don’t want your romance to wilt before it has even begun!
3. Candles and Music
If you have a fireplace, perfect. You want your date to feel comfortable and relaxed in your home and there is nothing more soothing than a burning fire. Forget electricity and break out the wicks – candles are perfect for creating a romantic setting. Buy scented candles to create more of an ambience. Music will also help to create a relaxed environment. Stay well clear of anything too upbeat, so keep the heavy metal CDs well hidden. Buy some soothing classical music and make sure it isn’t too loud, or it will seem too imposing and you won’t be able to hear each other speak. You want the music to soak into the background.
4. Dinner
Don’t spend too long on preparing dinner or you will make yourself tense and stressed before your date arrives. Go for something that requires minimal effort. You don’t want your date to be left on their own in the living room whilst you are sweating it out in the kitchen. The night in is meant to be about the pair of you getting to know each other and you can’t do that in separate rooms. There is nothing wrong with ordering in take away. Just make sure you get out your finest china. And don’t forget to accompany your meal with a nice bottle of wine or champagne. Alcohol will help ease your inhibitions.
5. Rent a Movie
After dinner clear the plates and move to the living room where you can both relax and watch a DVD. Don’t choose anything too violent. Go for something which requires minimal concentration, so avoid films like The Usual Suspects or Vanilla Sky. Romance or thrillers are good options as they allow you both to get cosy on the couch.
