Kids in tow?

Yes, and here's how to get it right...
You want your new partner and your children to get on, because obviously they’re both important to you. This is where a ‘family date’ comes in. You need somewhere with something for everyone – romantic time for you, fun for the kids, and something you can all bond over.
Option 1: Puppy love
Pets are the best icebreaker possible because they take the focus off you, so bring the dog and halve the amount of potential awkward moments. If you haven’t got a mutt or a friend to dog-nap one from, you can now hire a hound from www.flexpetz.com, a US agency which has recently set up in the UK. Pack your pockets with doggy treats, hit the park and have some fun.
Option 2: Hit the beach
Britain has over 10,000 miles of coastline, so make the most of it. First, check the weather forecast so you don’t get caught out by a freak summer electric storm, and you can make sure you’re wearing the right gear. Now, team up for a surf lesson, go all David Attenborough with a net and rockpools, or bring a bat and ball so the kids are having too much fun to say the dreaded words, ‘I’m bored.’ When the children are running around having a laugh, you can steal a romantic kiss with your date.
Option 3: Bond over the big screen
Going to the cinema is the right balance of exciting (escapism popcorn hotdogs = brilliant) and ordinary (everyone’s enjoyed it before). Obviously you need to choose a film appropriate for your little ones, which involves a bit of compromising. But the good news is it feels romantic as soon as the lights go down, and afterwards you can all chat about how amazingly good / laughably bad it was. Cringeworthy small talk, be gone!
