It’s easy to build up expectations when it comes to a blind date. The key is to keep an open mind. Here is a quick guide of do’s and don’ts to make sure your date lives up to your hopes:
Do:
-
- Be open minded
-
- Remember; beauty is only skin deep
-
- Be as honest as possible
-
- Focus on your good points
Don’t:
- - Expect a Hollywood film star
- - Lie about your appearance or achievements
- - Appear interested (even if you’re not!)
- - Be nervous
If you’re dating online and you’re using a photograph on your profile then try to make sure that it’s true to life. It can be tempting to pretend you’re Angelina Jolie’s twin, but don’t trick anyone into thinking you’re a supermodel if you’re not – you’ll only come a cropper!
For the majority of us, the most important components of a relationship are friendship, trust, honesty and having common interests. And above all we want to have a bit of fun. Sometimes dating can be a lottery, so you’ve got to believe in a little fate and destiny. Treat the date as something to look forward to – a great opportunity. If it all goes to the dogs then what have you lost? Nothing. If worst comes to worst and your date has bad breath, is lecherous, boring or conceited, then cross your fingers and hope that come midnight he’ll turn into a pumpkin so that you can make your escape. All will not have been lost – at the very least you will have gained a little experience, not to mention a good story to tell your mates next time you see them.
But don’t be disheartened by tales of ghosties and ghoolies posing as dates. Let’s stay positive - hundreds of couples these days have met on a blind date, been set up by mates, met on the internet or in the dating column of a newspaper. It does work.
So - this Hallowe’en get out there and land yourself a date; you never know when it might be your lucky day. And if it turns out to be fright night, curl up alone on the sofa with a takeaway and get stuck into a scary movie….
